Dax is a gorgeous 3 year old boy who loves meeting new people.
When we first got the alert about a stray pitbull in early 2025, we couldn’t believe our eyes — we recognized him. Over a year earlier, this same dog had been spotted running with a pack of strays in the same area. Even then, he bore a horrific wound on his face, but despite our efforts, we couldn’t catch him. This time, we did. We rushed Dax to the vet. Time had closed the wound, but not without consequence. The scarring had pulled the skin around his eye so tightly he could no longer blink, leaving it painfully exposed and damaged beyond saving. Surgery was the only option, and Dax underwent the procedure to have the eye removed. From there, he came to us — quiet, unsure of his new surroundings, and clearly unfamiliar with kindness. It was clear Dax had never known a gentle touch or a soothing voice. He didn’t recoil or shy away from affection, but he didn’t quite know what to do with it either. Like someone learning a new language, he’s slowly beginning to understand what love feels like. Dax will come to you, not demanding, but looking up quietly, waiting patiently for a cue, for a sign — trusting that whatever comes next will be okay. He wants to be near people. He watches your every move with gentle curiosity, finding comfort just in being close. Every moment with him is a quiet reminder of how much dogs can forgive, and how deeply they can trust. The scars on Dax’s face tell a story we’ll never fully know — but what matters most now is the story we help him write next. Despite everything, there’s a calm strength in Dax. He is observant, resilient, and slowly discovering that people can be safe, and homes can be warm. Dax is ready to leave the past behind. He’s looking for a patient, loving person who will continue showing him what it means to be cherished. He may only have one eye, but what he sees now — safety, hope, a future — is more than he ever had before.
Dax loves people and gets along with other dogs and would a great family pet.
